As part of our role as a website translation and international internet marketing agency, we have researched into the online activities of many countries. We’ll be summarising these findings on our Global Website and within this blog, starting today with France.
Of the 62 million population in France, over 58% have access to the internet, giving them the 8th highest number of internet users in Europe. Which is one below the UK at number 7 in the list.
Of these users, 53% are male with 47% female. The most popular age range is 35-49 years which has 29% of the market. 22% are over 50 years of age.
French is the 5th most used language on the internet with 73 million users in 2008.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Google is the most popular search engine in Frnace, dominating the market with over 89% of traffic, Bing is a distant number 2 with Yahoo a close third. AOL and Orange are the only other search engines with any kind of market share, just over 1% each.
Ecommerce thrives in France with 21 million people buying online in 2008. Over 16 billiion Euros worth of business was done online in 2007 with the volumes increasing each year.
Social Networking is popular in France with Facebook a mere 5th in the list. Number one is Skyrock with 24% of the market, followed by Copains D’avant at 2, Windows Live Spaces number 3, MySpace at 4 and the aforementioned Facebook at 5 with just over 10% share.
